Goldthwaite (Texas)

Goldthwaite, founded in 1885, is a small town with 1,802 inhabitants ( 2002) and the administrative seat of Mills County, Texas.

Goldthwaite is located in the western part of the Texas hill country to around 474 meters above sea level. The city is situated on the United States Highways 84 and 183, as well as on Texas State Highway 16, the city is also a stop on the railway company Burlington Santa Fe.

Goldthwaite, like many other cities in Texas named after a railway employees: Joe C. Goldthwaite of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway. The post office was opened in 1886, the first prison in 1888 and the courthouse in 1890.
