Gombe-Stream-Nationalpark

The Gombe Stream National Park is a national park in western Tanzania (East Africa), directly on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika. It covers an area of about 51 km ², making it the smallest national park in Tanzania. It is located 16 km north of Kigoma, near the border with Burundi.

Description

The Gombe National Park is formed by a thin strip of old mountain forest, which is traversed by deep valleys. He was known by the chimpanzees, which are observed here since 1960 by the British primatologist Jane Goodall. Other important species are, for example, Baboons, are also explored for many years, red-tailed and Colobus monkeys.

A total of 87 mammal species, 367 bird, 40 reptile and 23 amphibian species and 1,174 plant species have been documented in the park.
