Gong Li

Gong Li (Chinese巩俐/巩俐, Pinyin Gǒng Lì ) ( born December 31, 1965 in Shenyang, Liaoning ) is an actress of Chinese origin with Singaporean citizenship. Your greatest achievements came in the films of director Zhang Yimou, with whom she was romantically involved until 1995.

Biography

Gong Li was born as the daughter of an economics professor. She grew up in Jinan, capital of Shandong province. After 1985 she was not accepted by a college of music, she took in 1986 to study at the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing, from which she graduated in 1989.

While still a student she hired Zhang Yimou in 1987 for his film Red Sorghum, which was awarded in 1988 at the International Film Festival in Berlin Best Picture with a Golden Bear.

First steps towards Hollywood she made the film Chinese Box in 1997. 2005 finally succeeded in their international breakthrough with the award-winning role of Hatsumomo in Memoirs of a Geisha, which was praised by critics. They also played a role in the film Miami Vice from the year 2006.

To severe criticism in China, especially on the Internet, led their acceptance of citizenship of Singapore. Since China does not allow dual citizenship, she decided to abandon the Chinese in favor of Singapore.
