Good Governance Party

The Minseitō (Japanese民政党, Minseitō ) was a Political Party of Japan of a short life in 1998. She was a centrist, reformist party that united in the year of their creation in April 1998 with other parties to the Democratic Party of Japan.

The name was a pre-war party Rikken Minseitō borrowed, which existed from 1927 to 1940.

History

The party grew out of several smaller reformist groups that arose from the collapse of the coalition party Shinshinto in 1996:

  • The Taiyōtō (太阳 党, Taiyōtō or Sun Party), led by Tsutomu Hata,
  • The Kokumin no Koe (国民 の 声, Voice of the People) under Michihiko Kano,
  • An independent group, the From Five (フロム ファイブ, Furomu Faibu ) was known under Morihiro Hosokawa.

Shortly after their union in January 1998, the Party merged with the Democratic Party of Japan, 1996 (民主党, Minshutō ), the party of the new Brotherhood (新 党 友爱, Shinto YUAI ) and the Democratic Reform Party (民主改革 连 合, Minshu Kaikaku Rengo ) to a new Democratic Party of Japan.

Hata, Kano and Hosokawa played an important role in the development of the party to the main opposition party in Japan.
