Good Will Hunting is a movie from 1997 directed by Gus Van Sant. The main role is played by Matt Damon, who also wrote the screenplay with Ben Affleck.
Action
The 20 -year-old Will Hunting lived in a rundown neighborhood in South Boston a sparsely furnished apartment and spends his free time with his friends Chuckie, Billy and Morgan with baseball games and plenty of beer in bars. He also likes beating themselves. He already has some criminal history, ranging from assault to car theft. He earns his money with various laborer activities. He currently works as a cleaner at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, where he wipes the corridors. When he loosens easily complicated, thought for students, written on a blackboard mathematical tasks, discovered mathematics professor Gerald Lambeau a previously unknown mathematical genius in him.
After Will has instigated a fight for the umpteenth time, he goes to court and is sentenced to a prison term because of his criminal record. Professor Lambeau meets with the judge the agreement, Will under observation from Lambeau to be released from prison unless he adheres to two conditions: It must meet once per week with the professor and a therapist. As Will has already brought the fifth therapists to give up working with him, Lambeau sees the last chance in the psychologist Sean Maguire from Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown. Maguire, whom he still knows from his years of study, dates from the same working-class neighborhood of Boston as Will. He will gradually access to Will and brings him to face challenges, rather than evading them.
In a bar, Will meets the student Skylar, who gives him her phone number. There will be a meeting and the two fall in love. After a few meetings, he lets it fall again, however, and claims that he would not love her.
Lambeau has to give before, Will as soon as possible a lucrative position in research or industry that matches its capabilities. However, Will is not willing to trade the familiar unskilled lives with his buddy Chuckie against a bourgeois existence. Lambeau professor can not understand this, the contact between the two stops.
Maguire learns from the court records that Will has grown up in foster care, where he was physically abused, and can now better understand their difficult behavior. - After Robin Williams had gotten the Oscar for his role in the film, he sent peer Augustinski who had synchronized him in the German version, a small replica of the Oscar statuette with a note: " Thank you for making me famous in Germany ".
- The role of Skylar was named after Matt Damon's former girlfriend Skylar Satenstein. This left Matt Damon, however, because of Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich even before filming began. Damon and Skylar Actress Minnie Driver, in turn, began an affair during the film production. Skylar Satenstein and Lars Ulrich were married in 1997 and divorced again in 2004.

- In the movie Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back 2001 (directed by Kevin Smith) play Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in a scene their roles from the Good Will Hunting and parody this in the fictional sequel " Good Will Hunting II: Hunting Season ". Director Gus Van Sant is seen as a disinterested director of the sequel.
