Goondiwindi

Goondiwindi is a small town in southern Queensland, Australia. Goondiwindi is located about 350 kilometers southwest of the capital Brisbane on the Macintyre River on the border with New South Wales. Goondiwindi has about 5,000 inhabitants and is the seat of the same local government area ( LGA) Goondiwindi Regional Council. The town's name stems from the Aboriginal language and means as much as resting place for the birds.

Goondiwindi was founded in 1888. At that time, the city was one of the few border crossings between the colonies of Queensland and New South Wales. This function lost the city with the foundation of the Australian Federation in 1901. From this time the old customs post is in town about that which is now a museum.

Today Goondiwindi is a major transportation hub in southern Queensland.
