Goose Goslin
Leon Allen " Goose " Goslin ( born October 16, 1900 in Salem, New Jersey, † May 15 1971 in Bridgeton, New Jersey) was an American baseball player in Major League Baseball.
Biography
Goose Goslin made his debut in Major League outfielder for the Washington Senators as on 16 September 1921. 1923 he was able to capture a regular place at the senator. In 1924 he won with his team the World Series against the New York Giants in seven games. In this series Goslin reached a Schlagdurchscnitt of 34.4 %, hit three home runs and seven RBI. Also in 1925 he succeeded three homers in the World Series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, which the senator had to admit defeat but. In 1930 he moved to the St. Louis Browns before he played with the Senators again in 1933. In his second career he could stay in Washington with his team reach the playoffs again. With only average performance Goslin could not prevent the clear defeat in five games against the New York Giants. After that season, he moved to the Detroit Tigers, with whom he also was able to reach the World Series in 1934 and 1935. There was a 1934 defeat in seven games against the St. Louis Cardinals and a win in six games against the Chicago Cubs. In 1938, he finished his career after a third stay with the Washington Senators.
In eleven seasons, he was able to more than 100 RBI and achieve a batting average of over 30%. He is the only player to have participated in all 19 World Series games, the Washington Senators.
He also was involved in the first penalty against a referee in Major League. In the World Series in 1935, he delivered a heated discussion with Bill Klem, which was later incorporated as an arbitrator in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Klem transgressed then probably in consequence of this dispute in the choice of words and was occupied by the then Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis fined.
After his career Goslin operating a boat rental service in his home state of New Jersey. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1968.
