Göran Persson

Hans Göran Persson? / I [ jo ː ː ran PAE ʂɔn ] ( born January 20, 1949 in Vingåker ) is a Swedish Social Democratic politician and was dated 22 March 1996 to 6 October 2006 the 41st Prime Minister of Sweden.

Policy

From 1979 to 1984 he was a Member of the Swedish Parliament, 1984 to 1989 local council in Katrine Holm. In 1989 he returned to national politics and held for two years (until 1991 ) the office of the second education minister. Since 1991 he is again a Member of the Swedish Parliament, where he was from 1991 to 1993 chairman of the Agriculture Committee. In 1993, he was then to 1994 the Economic Committee of the Reichstag active as well as economic policy spokesman for his party, the Social Democratic Workers Party ( SAP). When the Social Democrats returned after the 1994 election to power, Persson was appointed by Prime Minister Ingvar Carlsson as finance minister in the government. Following the resignation Carlsson Göran Persson was elected on 15 March as chairman of his party and on 21 March 1996 in the Office of the Prime Minister. After the 1998 election, in which the SAP suffered losses at the polls, he continued to rule with a minority government. As of the 2002 election, the Social Democrats were able to win.

Persson moved after the election defeat by the Alliance for Sweden at the 2006 election the consequences and were still on election night known, not only on the following day submitted the resignation of his government in the Reichstag president, but to convene a special convention to elect a new party chairman for March.

Persson's successor as Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt ( Moderata samlingspartiet ).

Family and Personal

Göran Persson is since December 2003 married his third wife Anitra Steen with. From his former wife, Annika Barthine, he had separated after seven years of marriage in December 2002. Previously Persson 1978-1995 married to Gunnel Claesson. From this marriage his two daughters.

  • 2004: Honorary doctorate from the University of Örebro for the collection of university work to the university contrary to conflicting recommendations honorary doctorate led to discussions in Sweden and was also addressed in the Constitutional Committee of the Swedish Parliament.
  • 2007: Sophie Prize of the Norwegian Sophie Foundation for his work on the environment, particularly on climate issues
