Göran Wahlenberg

, Also called Göran Wahlberg Georg Wahlberg ( born October 1, 1780 Socks Kroppa at Filipstad, † March 22, 1851 in Uppsala ) was a Swedish botanist, who taught at the University of Uppsala and researched. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Wahlenb. ".

Life

Wahlberg dealt primarily with the floristic botany, which he considered an ecological and vegetation geographical point of view. One of his first publications was the geographical description of Lapland. In widely separated research areas (Scandinavia, Bohemia, Hungary, Switzerland ), he recognized the importance of this major climate, "Climate character " as the cause of the distribution of plants. At the polar and alpine distribution limits, he found that not the mean annual temperature determine the vegetation boundaries, but the seasonal distribution of the amount of heat.

He was the genus Wahlenbergia Schrad honor. ex Roth of the plant family of the bellflower family ( Campanulaceae ) named.
