Goranboy District

Goranboy is a rayon in Azerbaijan. Capital of the district is the city Goranboy. The southern part of the area was inhabited at the time of the Soviet Union, an independent Rayon Schahumjan and to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict majority of Armenians. It is claimed by the neighboring Republic of Nagorno Karabakh as part of the province Schahumjan. A small area on the border has occupied since the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in 1993 by the Armenian army. The disputed area is still mined and tense the situation, in the district there is a strong military presence.

Geography

The rayon has an area of ​​1791 km ². In the area located foothills of the Greater Caucasus extend. There are deposits of oil, plaster and clay.
