Gordon Jackson (actor)

Gordon Cameron Jackson, OBE, ( born December 19, 1923 in Glasgow, Scotland, † January 15, 1990 in London, England) was a Scottish actor.

Life and career

Gordon Jackson finished an apprenticeship as a mechanic at Rolls -Royce Motor Cars Ltd. .. However, in 1943 he left the group and was in the Scottish Rutherglen his stage debut as an actor - to have completed a training as an actor without ever. Therefore he suffered in his own words his life under strong stage fright. Nevertheless, he became a popular actor in film and television.

Jackson starred in feature films such as Mutiny on the Bounty (next Marlon Brando ) and The Great Escape. In 1971 he was appointed as a dutiful butler Hudson in the television series Upstairs, Downstairs Place (Upstairs, Downstairs ), which he embodied in 60 of the 68 episodes, known to millions and awards for his role in 1976 with an Emmy. From 1977 to 1983, he again played a major role in the crime series The Professionals as head of the fictional secret special unit CI5 ( an allusion to the MI5 ) Major George Cowley and superior of the two title characters Bodie ( Lewis Collins) and Doyle ( Martin Shaw). In the German version of both series Jackson was dubbed by actor Edgar Ott.

Jackson was married to Scottish actress Rona Anderson. He died in 1990 from bone cancer.
