Gorges du Tarn

As Gorges du Tarn, the large canyon is called in the first third of the Tarn River between the towns of Le Rozier and Sainte- Enimie.

Geography

Located in the northeast of the town of Millau, the 35 km long canyon of Sainte -Enimie leads in the east to Le Rozier in the West. Through them a tourism road runs with many vantage points. The 400 to 500 m deep gorge itself is partially protected.

The gorge was formed by the Tarn, who washed the limestone and marl in several layers horizontally layered rocks of the Cevennes. There are both steilwändige bottlenecks, such as the rocky outcroppings Les Detroit, as well as broad valley basin, such as Cirque of the tree with its polychrome ( multi-colored ) rock walls. By underground leaching also caves and caverns are formed.

Others

Can be found at excellent parts of the valley castles, the Château de la Caze, the Château de Hauterive, Château de Blanquefort and the Château de Castelbouc; the last three are ruins today.
