Gorgeted Puffleg

The Isabella Snow panties ( Eriocnemis isabellae ), also known as Pinche panties Hummingbird, is a Colombian hummingbird from the kind of wool panties. It was discovered in 2005 and described in 2007 as a new species.

Description

The Isabella Snow panties reaches a length of nine to ten centimeters. The English name Gorgeted Puffleg refers to a fillet drawing (English: Gorge ) of the male from iridescent emerald green and bright blue feathers.

Distribution and habitat

The only habitat is the rainforest of the Serranía de Pinche. This mountain range is located in the south of Colombia in the area of the municipality of Argelia, Cauca province.

Status

The type is despite their recent discovery threatened as extreme as their natural habitat is being destroyed by burning and illegal coca cultivation and on. BirdLife International classifies the species as threatened with extinction ( Critically Endangered ). Because the mountains of the Serrania del Pinche is a non- protected area, the protection of the natural habitat of the bird is very difficult.
