Gösta Bohman

Bo Gösta Bohman ( born January 15, 1911 in Stockholm; † August 12, 1997 ) was a Swedish politician. He was chairman of the party Moderata Samlingspartiet 1970-1981, Swedish Minister of Finance from 1976 to 1981 and member of the Reichstag from 1958 to 1991.

Training

After elementary school Gösta Bohman underwent military training in Kristianstad and was released in 1932 as a reserve officer. Four years later, he put his degree as a lawyer at the University of Stockholm. From 1936 to 1939 he completed his legal clerkship at the District Court ( häradsrätten ) Södra Roslagen, after he was drafted for military service as a lieutenant. 1948 Bohman managing director ( vice verkställande direktör ) of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce until 1970 he was elected as Chairman of the samlingspartiet Moderata.

Political career

As early as 1956 should be Bohman Reichstag Conservative candidate. Only in 1958 he accepted the offer and moved to Stockholm in the Second Chamber of the Riksdag. From 1961 to 1963 he was chairman of the Stockholm right-wing party. From 1965 to 1970 he sat as chairman of the mighty State Committee of the Reichstag. With the abolition of the bicameral system and the State Committee was dissolved. 1970 moved Bohman in the First Chamber of Parliament, where he was leader of the Conservatives. After the catastrophic election result of his party in September 1970 Bohman Yngve Holmberg ousted as party chairman. The party turned more to the political center and gained new profile.

1976 succeeded Gösta Bohman finally the change of power in Swedish politics. Bohman formed together with Thorbjorn Fälldin and Ola Ullsten the first non- Socialist government for over 40 years in Sweden. Gösta Bohman was given the post of finance minister. Also in 1979 following three-party government was Bohman finance minister until 1981. Moderates finally left the government after the other bourgeois parties had agreed with the Social Democrats to reform the marginal tax rates. In the same year 1981 Gösta Bohman resigned as party chairman. He was succeeded by Ulf nobility son. 1991 different Bohman out of the Reichstag.
