Grand Council of Fribourg

The Grand Council of the Canton of Fribourg (French: Grand Conseil du canton de Fribourg ) is the parliament of the canton of Fribourg. It comprises 110 deputies, who are elected in eight constituencies by proportional representation for five years. The current term of office comes Wherefore 2011 until 2016. The last complete re-election was held on November 13, 2011. The newly elected Grand Council was re-constituted in the session of 22 and 23 December 2011.

Tasks

The cantonal constitution of the canton of Fribourg regulates the powers of the Grand Council. It exercises legislative power in Canton and gathered regularly for the regular sessions. The Grand Council approves laws or its modification or repeal.

Constituencies

The cantonal constitution sets an upper limit of eight constituencies, which are competed for the respective parties with their own lists. The constituencies corresponding to the seven districts of Freiburg, where the Sarine district is divided into the districts of Freiburg City and Sarine country.
