Princess Alexandra of Greece and Denmark (. * 18 Augustjul / August 30 1870greg on Corfu, . † 12 Septemberjul / September 24 1891greg in Ilyinskoye in Moscow.. ) Was by marriage Grand Duchess of Russia from the House of Romanov -Holstein - Gottorp.

Life

Alexandra was the eldest daughter of the Greek King George I (1845-1913) from the House Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg and his wife Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna Romanova (1851-1926), daughter of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich Romanov and Princess Alexandra of Saxe- Altenburg. And sister of the future King Constantine I of Greece.

On 5 Junijul. / June 17 1889greg. married her in St. Petersburg, the Grand Duke Pavel Alexandrovich Romanov (1860-1919), son of the Russian Tsar Alexander II and his wife Princess Marie of Hesse- Darmstadt. Alexandra received after marriage the name of Grand Duchess Alexandra Georgievna Romanova (Russian Александра Георгиевна ). From this marriage two children were born:

  • Maria Pavlovna (1890-1958)
  • Dmitri Pavlovich (1891-1942), co-conspirator in the assassination of Rasputin

Alexandra died at age 21 from the effects of a fall on the banks of the Moskva River, before they brought seven months pregnant, her son Dimitri to the world. Then she fell into a coma and died six days later. Her husband had an affair with the married Olga of Pistohlkors, born Karnovich, whom he married without the permission of the Russian Tsar Nicholas II on 10 October 1902.
