Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras

The Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras is a five -star hotel in the High Tatras on the banks of Štrbské lake in Slovakia. It belongs to S. A. Kempinski Hotels and was opened in May 2009, after the reconstruction of the former ' Hviezdoslav ' complex.

History

The Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras consists of three interconnected, historical buildings, the built over a period of 34 years on sealed Pleso. Jánošík (1893 ), Kriváň (1906 ) and Hviezdoslav (1923 ) differ greatly in their architectural expression from the historic design to the modern style of the 1920s. Together, they give the impression of a curious construction with different shaped roofs arise.

The oldest of the three buildings is Jánošík ' and was built in 1893 and completed in 1894. Joseph Szentiványi had it built for his personal use and called it Villa Joseph '. , Kriváň ' was one of the three leading grand hotels in the Tatras. The project was developed under the direction of architect Guido Hoepfner in cooperation with Géza Györgyi during the Belle Époque, an era in which dominated the secession style. The Grand Hotel Hviezdoslav ' was opened in 1923 and was named the Slovak poet Hviezdoslav. The interior was the Rondo - Cubism, Czech style of the time, affected. Before hosting the FIS World Cup 1935, the old tourist restaurant has been replaced by a new French restaurant with a bar and was described by critics as unique in the Tatras.

Since 1953, the hotel complex was used as a sanatorium and was neglected until it finally had to be completely closed due to disrepair.

Reconstruction of the complex

2003, the architect Peter Černo began with a study to ' give back to the previous, Hviezdoslav its former glory. The aim of the project was to transform into a luxury hotel since 1963 under listed building. At the same time the hotel had to meet the demands of the Management Company Kempinski. The external appearance should match the original as possible, so Černo researched in archives to reconstruct as faithfully as possible with historical images and other documents the various buildings.

The reconstruction of the hotel took more than four years. The complex is located in the midst of the Tatra National Park and stands as a national monument the monument.
