Grand Hotel Union

The Grand Hotel Union is a luxury hotel not far from Preseren Square in the center of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.

History

The 1895 earthquake heavily damaged the city center. In the course of rebuilding parts has been redesigned. The hotel was built near the main square in the years 1903-1905 in the Vienna Art Nouveau by the architect Josip Vancaš and opened under the name of Hotel Union.

The facade is almost 100 meters long, and its iron complex roof structure was considered a technical achievement of the time. Since its completion in 1905, the hotel was renovated twice, but kept its original style. A modern background wing is designed for larger conferences. For a while, was the operator of the Holiday Inn.

On the ground floor of the building, the cafe is located Union ( Unionska kavarna ).
