Grand Magus

Grand Magus is a Swedish Stoner Doom band from Stockholm. The texts often thematize closeness to nature, paganism and issues such as strength, nature and death. Furthermore, it is also the history of Sweden, mainly at the time of the Inquisition treated. In addition, frequently Swedish folk melodies are used as interlude between songs.

History

Singer and guitarist Janne " JB " Christoffersson Grand Magus founded in 1996 under the name Smak. Until 1998, reinforced Fox (bass ) and Fredrik " Trisse " Liefvendahl (drums), the band, which then was published in 1999 and 2000 two demos. Rise Above Records expressed an interest and took the band under contract. In 2001, the split LP It's over with Spiritual Beggars, where JB got in later as a singer, published.

The albums Grand Magus (2001), Monument (2003) and Wolf 's Return (2005 ), which were rewarded with decent to excellent reviews. Here, the band refined their style and turned more and more metal influences on without betraying its roots. In winter 2005/2006 Grand Magus went on a multi-week European tour together with Cathedral and Electric Wizard. After drummer Trisse left the band. He was replaced by Sebastian " SEB " Sippola ( Plankton, Four Sticks ).

As of October 13, 2007 the band went to the Swedish one-man studio to record their new album, Iron Will, which was released on June 9, 2008. This album also earned unanimous praise again by the press and won the Metal Hammer soundcheck the July issue 2008.

On 18 June 2010 Hammer of the North was released on Roadrunner Records. Again there was excellent reviews, including the soundcheck victory in both the Rock Hard and Metal Hammer. The album reached number 42 on the German album charts.

The band was also the opening act of the European tour 2010 by Motörhead to hear (before Doro Pesch ). In January 2012, she toured with the bands Bullet, Steelwing, Skull Fist and Vanderbuyst through Europe. In order to devote more attention to his family left drummer Sebastian Sippola the band in April 2012. As a replacement Ludwig Witt ( Shining, Spiritual Beggars ) increased at a Grand Magus. In May 2012, then appeared the album The Hunt.
