Grand Prix Masters

There are two racing series called the Grand Prix Masters. On one hand, this is the Grand Prix Masters, a race series for Formula 1 racing cars of the period 1966-1977, and on the other hand, the GP Masters, an event for former Formula 1 racing driver.

The Grand Prix Masters is part of the Masters Series. Get in on her gentleman drivers in race cars, which date from the time before the ground effect and turbo era of F1. The racing car driven there all have an active racing history and are part of the varied Formula 1 history. In the series existing for several years, seven races were contested in 2007. The venues were Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Donington Park, Porto and the Nürburgring.

When introduced in 2005 for GP Masters no longer active Formula 1 driver, the minimum age for participation was 45 years. In addition, each participant had to have contested the Formula 1 race in two seasons.

The Frenchman Jacques Laffite was the oldest participant at 63 years. From Germany were Hans -Joachim Stuck and Christian Danner of the party.

The races were held on uniform race cars. These were based on the chassis of Reynard Champ Car from 1999. The engine was a 3.5-liter V8 the company Nicolson McLaren and based on the Cosworth V8, which is used in the Champ Car series. However, the vehicles did not have the turbo used there.

After a court application by the chassis supplier Delta Special Projects, the operating company of the series was released and marked the end of this racing series in November 2007.

Results 2005

The first race was held in Kyalami, South Africa on 13 November 2005.

The Briton Nigel Mansell won the sold out before 90,000 spectators race before the Brazilian Emerson Fittipaldi with 0.4 seconds ahead. Third was the Italian Riccardo Patrese.

Results 2006

For 2006, four races were scheduled. However, the planned for early May in Monza race had to be canceled because of the new local noise conditions. Results 2007

For 2007, three races were officially announced. The race on a street circuit in Bucharest, which on 20 May should have taken place, has been canceled. The race at Kyalami on 23 September and at the Losail International Circuit on November 17, did not take place.

TV broadcasts in Germany

In Germany the pay-TV provider Premiere transferred (now Sky) all qualifying and race of the GP Masters. In the few races it was live with the F1 crew on site. There moderated Tanja Bauer, commentators were Jacques Schulz and Marc Surer.

Operators resolution

The High Court at the Royal Court in London had to decide on a motion to dissolve the operating company of the series. The request was filed by Altech chassis supplier Delta Special Projects and the sponsor. The court has resolved its Decision on 28 November 2007, the Company.
