Grandma's Marathon

Grandma's Marathon is a marathon in the U.S., which is held annually since 1977 in June. The route from Two Harbors, Minnesota on the Scenic Route 61 along the shore from Lake Superior to Duluth. There the run near the Aerial Lift Bridge ends at Canal Park.

History

The marathon was first held in 1977. Winner of the first race, which was attended by 150 runners, was a native of Duluth Olympian Garry Bjorklund. As namesake functioned Grandma 's Restaurant, which had opened in Duluth and sponsored the race with 600 U.S. dollars. This results in a marathon developed annually up to 9500 participants and, with a budget of around two million U.S. dollars is an important economic factor in the region dar.

In addition to the sport of marathon running a competition for wheelchair users, a half marathon, a 5000 - meter race and a competition for children will be held. Overall, there are annually about 15,000 participants in the competitions.
