History

Grandpré has been known since ancient times for its carnival.. - In June 1791, during the so-called flight to Varennes the royal family, Louis XVI, both royalist soldiers and groups of Republican followers as fair visitors on their way to Grandpré gave out to their nightly presence in the room of Châlons- to explain sur- Marne.

A year later, in 1792, the Republican army was placed under Dumouriez in the village of Saint- Juvin at Grandpré by the troops of the Duke of Brunswick, but could pull off unnoticed in the night of September 14, 1792. A week later, Dumouriez won the first coalition war in the cannonade of Valmy.
