Grant-Lee Phillips

Grant -Lee Phillips ( born September 1, 1963 in Stockton, California) is an American musician. He is primarily known as a singer, guitarist and songwriter of the band Grant Lee Buffalo ( 1992-1999).

Life

Grant -Lee Phillips was born in 1963 in Stockton, California as Bryan G. Phillips. When he moved on to study film to Los Angeles, he joined forces with Jeff Clark, the band Shiva Burlesque, with which he 1987 and 1990 each brought out an album. After the band broke up, and Phillips began to make music under the name of Grant Lee Buffalo. Reinforced with drummer Joey Peters and bassist Paul Kimble he then signed with Slash Records, a label that was one of Warner Bros.. The band was able to record with the 1994 released album Mighty Joe Moon and the single release Mockingbirds a success.

1995 Rolling Stone Magazine hailed the Grant -Lee Phillips as " Best male vocalist ". Since 1999, Phillips pursued a successful solo career. He released several albums, including Nineteeneighties (2006), on no own songs, but only cover versions are included from the 80s - including songs by The Cure, Pixies, The Church, Echo & The Bunnymen, New Order and The Smiths.

Grant -Lee Phillips also appeared as an actor in the U.S. series Gilmore Girls. There, Phillips presented the Stadttroubadour the town of Stars Hollow dar.
