Geography

Geographical Location

The Grävenwiesbacher municipality is located in 240 to 500 meters above sea level in the eastern Hintertaunus, north of the main ridge of the Taunus. Nearest towns are Wetzlar (20 km ) to the north, Limburg an der Lahn (32 km ) to the west and Frankfurt am Main ( 40 km) to the south.

Neighboring communities

Gravenwiesbach bordered to the north by the municipalities Weilmunster ( Limburg- Weilburg ) and Waldsolms (Lahn -Dill-Kreis ) in the east to the cities of Butzbach ( Wetterau ), and Usingen, in the south and west on the community Weilrod (both in Hochtaunuskreis ).

The municipality consists of the villages Gravenwiesbach, Heinz Berg, dog town, Laubach, Mönstadt and Naunstadt.

History

Gravenwiesbach was first documented in 1280. Since 1326 the town belonged to the county, and later Principality of Nassau -Weilburg with which it came in 1806 to the newly created Duchy of Nassau. 1866 Gravenwiesbach became Prussian.

By 1925, and for at least 200 years the Jewish cemetery Gravenwiesbach was used as a grave for Jewish lay church members.

In the course of municipal reform in Hesse communities Gravenwiesbach, Heinz Berg, dog town, Laubach, Mönstadt and Naunstadt joined voluntarily on 31 December 1971 Gravenwiesbach community together.

For the area of the six former municipalities by statute main local districts were built with town council and mayor. The boundaries of the local districts are not specifically defined, and therefore follow the district boundaries since then.

Federal highway 456 runs through Gravenwiesbach, the A5 motorway Frankfurt - Kassel can be reached in approximately 25 km distance across the junction top Moerlen.

Station Gravenwiesbach

On 1 June 1909, the railway Usingen - Gravenwiesbach - Weilmunster was opened. Thus, a continuous connection from Frankfurt and Bad Homburg had been created to Weilburg.

On the edge of Gravenwiesbach is the Richard Schirrmann - Hostel, one of three hostels in Hochtaunuskreis. Already in 1937, this hostel was planned.
