Grażyna Miller

Grazyna Miller ( born January 29, 1957 in Jedwabne, † 17 August 2009) was a Polish- Italian poet, journalist and translator.

Life and work

After high school (Polish: Matura) in Łomża she studied four semesters at Pedagogical University and was hired as a teacher of Polish at an elementary school (8 classes). During school holidays she worked as a tour guide, met a Italians know, married him in 1983 emigrated to Siena, lived in Tuscany and studied the Italian language there. In February 2003, she transferred to the Italian Roman Triptych. Meditations, a book of poems of John Paul II, who appeared in the Vatican publishing house. In this volume a preface by the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger has been printed. The official inauguration of the Italian version was on 6 March 2003 in the Sala Stampa Vaticana in the presence of the Pope instead.

The first collection of poems of the poet, published under the title Curriculum 1988 was cloisters in Turin exhibited at the National Book Fair in Turin and in the famous gallery of antiques. Another collection of poems on the breath wave ( Sull'onda del respiro ) was issued in 2000 and the Hall of Fame of the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels, on the Republic Square in Rome, was presented. The last published collection of poems alibi of the butterfly ( Alibi di una Farfalla ) from 2002 has found its place in the library of the Vatican Archives.

The poet has received national and international awards in Italy. It was a prize of the Minister of Italian Culture ( in 2002), an International Price Vanvitelli ( Luigi Vanvitelli 2001) - "for a work that makes proud of the civilization of the 20th century, serving the intellectual and humanistic generation ". In 2002, she received the International Prize Marineo for poetic creation. Other awards were: the first national prize for poetry with religious themes, the First Prize "Forum Interart " for artists, poets, storytellers and a price " Fiore di roccia " for poems with love theme. In 2004 she received a National Award for literature and journalism, with special distinction for the Italian version of " Roman Triptych ( Trittico romano ) ".

In Cartagena (Spain ) in 2003, she received the International Prize " Cartago ( Cartagine ) ".

In Poland it has received from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow, a gold medal for her work and dedication to the Polish- Italian cooperation. In this way, it was " The Best in 2001 " award in the home by an international prize.

Interested in the work and creativity of Grazyna Miller not only the Polish ( " Życie Warszawy ", " Dziennik Polski ", " courier Poranny " etc. ) and the Italian ( " L' Osservatore Romano ", " Il Messaggero ", " Il tempo ", " La Sicilia ", etc.), but also the Spanish and American press. Among other things, the Italian-American magazine " Bel Paese ", which appears in the U.S., has its time set up a column for her poems. For them, even radio and television interested. In Antenna Sicilia program had the poet some time live out their mission of declaiming poetry and the Vatican TV station "Tele Pace " has aired a program about her Gedichsband " alibi of the butterfly ," with translations of some poems of Karol Wojtyla. Also, the Italian radio and the RAI has devoted much attention to their poems and the Vatican Radio has done with their interviews, both in Italian and the Polish Radio Vatican.

Also noteworthy is the participation of Grazyna Miller at the manifestation " International Poetry Contest. A Poetry for Peace", organized by the Study Centre " Anna Kuliscioff " (with the participation of the President of the Italian Republic, ambassadors and foreign institutions ). This has given a testimony of its humanitarian commitment to her vocation as a poet.
