Libellula Vibrans

Libellula Vibrans is a dragonfly species of the genus Libellula of the subfamily Libellulinae. Is particularly prevalent kind in the eastern United States. L. Vibrans is considered the largest member of the genus Libellula in the USA.

Construction of Imago

The animal reaches a length of 50-63 millimeters, 37-43 millimeters which attributable to the abdomen. The face of the animal is to be white thorax brown to a thin white dorsal line. Lateral thoracic color changes in a light gray. On the third lateral structure of the thorax there is a dark line. The hind wings reaches a length 46-52 mm and is like the forewings mostly transparent. On approach, a thin dark line and the nodus is in turn a dark spot. The wing tips are black. The legs have a two-part color. The femur is gray up to half and then black. The following tibia and tarsus black. The abdomen is yellow with a dorsal black stripes. However, the males of color with age from the chest down in a pale blue. The females, however, dye their abdomen brown with age. Further, the 8 segment laterally strongly broadened in the females.

Construction of the larva

The larvae possess centrally in the face seated eyes and have a long, tapered abdomen towards the end. The edge of the unpaired front part of the labium, called prementum is smooth.
