Greater Montreal
The Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal ( CMM) is a regional purpose association in the Canadian province of Quebec, consisting of municipalities in the metropolitan area of the city of Montreal. It was created by a decree of the National Assembly of Quebec law in June 2000. The CMM comprises 82 municipalities with a total of 3.7 million inhabitants on an area of 4258.97 km ².
Tasks
The CMM has planning, coordination and financing competencies in the following areas:

- Economic development
- Arts and cultural promotion
- Public transport and major road network
- Social Housing
- Infrastructure and services of regional significance
- Waste
- Wastewater treatment
- Conservation
- Air Quality
- Geomatics
Composition of the Council
The Council of the CMM is composed of 28 members:
- The Mayor of Montreal
- Thirteen members of the Council of agglomeration Montreal
- The mayor of Laval and two other members of the City Council
- The mayor of Longueuil and two other members of the Council agglomeration of Longueuil
- Four mayors of municipalities in the region Rive -Nord ( North Shore )
- Four mayors of municipalities in the region Rive -Sud ( south shore )
