Greater Western Sydney Giants

The Greater Western Sydney Football Club, short GWS Giants or only Giants, is an Australian football team, which plays in the Australian Football League since 2012 and represents the Greater Western Sydney ( GWS) region and the Australian capital Canberra. Venues of the Giants are the Sydney Showground Stadium ( Skoda Stadium ) in Sydney Olympic Park, ANZ Stadium in Sydney in games against local rivals Sydney Swans and the Manuka Oval in Canberra for four games per season for the next ten years. The club colors are orange, charcoal ( Charcoal ) and white.

History

After a long planning phase with different concepts for the establishment of a new AFL club Greater Western Sydney, the New Club of the AFL was decided in 2008. The global economic crisis in 2008 further delayed the process because financial resources are becoming increasingly scarce. 2009, the club was finally established in 2010 first test games were completed in 2012 and was followed by the final step in the Australian Football League. The first season was characterized by high defeat the Giants, including five losses with more than 100 points difference. With a record of two wins and 20 defeats GWS took on the end of the season last in the standings and won the Wooden Spoon as the worst team in the AFL. The 2013 season started for the Giants with 18 consecutive defeats, rather the Melbourne Demons were defeated on the 19th game day. Nevertheless GWS ranks continue on the last place in the standings.
