Greatest Love Songs Vol 666 (English for " Greatest Love Songs Vol 666" ) is the first studio album by the Finnish rock band HIM. The debut album was released on 20 November 1997 in Finland and, as the first foreign publication, in January 1998 in Germany.

Background

Although this record did not bring the international breakthrough of the band, but rather served as a springboard, it was with 120.000verkauften copies ( in Germany ) quite successfully and made HIM known, especially in the metal scene. In Finland, the disc reached # 4 on the charts after all, already, in Germany rank 50th

After the album reached gold status in Finland and managed the first two singles there in the top 10 of the charts, the group received a contract with Gun / Super Sonic and the album was released in Germany. Due to this success, the group played their first overseas concerts on 29 August 1998 at the Summer Horizon Festival in Gelsenkirchen as the opening act for The Sisters of Mercy and September 12th, 1998 in Bochum at the Crossing All Over Festival. The end of 1998 could HIM in Finland the Emma Award, a prestigious Finnish music award, accept for Best Newcomer.

Greatest Love Songs Vol 666, is the first album to date musically the hardest, so it all lovers of harder sounds as the culmination of the art of the group. The title of Greatest Love Songs, Vol 666 with the addition should, according to Valo represent a kind of antithesis to each other, like yin and yang, as bright and dark side of love.

Four singles were released from the album in Finland decoupled ( Wicked Game, When Love and Death Embrace Your Sweet Six Six Six, It's All Tears ), but appeared in Germany only Wicked Game, a Chris Isaak cover, and When Love and Death Embrace, which also created music videos. In addition to Wicked Game is with ( Do not Fear ) The Reaper (actually, Blue Öyster Cult ) another cover on the plate. This song and For You Ville Valo sings a duet with the Finnish singers Sanna - June Hyde ( ( Do not Fear ) The Reaper ) and Asta Hannula ( For You ).

Only in Finland was released the album with a different title sequence, in digipak. In Germany, however, a limited version later appeared with the added song Stigmata Diaboli. The album has taken exactly 66 tracks, with a running time of 66 minutes and 6 seconds. A nice gimmick to also reach in display ads in CD players, the number 666, and finally include the tracks 10 to 65 no music. However, Song 66 plays the melody of The Heartless of the second demo tapes.
