The Ethniki Odos 3/Εθνική Οδός 3 (Greek for National Road 3 ') is a street on the mainland of Greece, from the north to the Macedonian border ( Niki ) in the Regional District of Florina south to the city Elefsina on the coast of the Saronic Gulf in the west of Athens runs. It is an important north -south connection and has a length of about 500 km. A section of National Road 3 from Kozani to Ptolemais is expanded as a motorway 27 ( A27 ) and marked accordingly, a further part of the National Road 3 ( Domokos - Lamia ) is replaced by under construction highway 3 (A3 ) after their completion.

Course

Northern section ( Florina, Kozani )

The National Road 3 begins at the Macedonian border at Niki in the regional district of Florina and first runs south to the town of Florina. From there, they united with the E.O. 2 and leads west to the small village of Vivie. When Vivie, the National Road 3 to the south, passing through the mountain Mala Reka east and west of the Petre's Lake, the locality Amyndeo. South of Amynteo branches off the National Road 3 from the National Road 2 again to the south and passes through the Greek lignite or lignite - mining area after Ptolemais in the regional district of Kozani. Ptolemais is bypassed to the west between the city and a lignite mining. On the section between Amyndeo and Ptolemais -South National Road 3 is expanded as a two-lane road with one emergency lane and intersection-free connections. From the junction Ptolemais -South GR EO3 runs over Pontokomi to Kozani This section is designated as Highway 27 and expanded with separate carriageways with two lanes with no hard shoulder. In the north of Kozani National Road 3 crosses as highway 27 Highway 2 (E 90). It runs after the junction with Highway 2 south through the city of Kozani. The expansion and designation as Highway 27 ends before entering the city of Kozani. After passing the town of Kozani innerort the National Road 3 runs straight towards the north coast of Aliakmona Reservoir ( Polyfytos Lake). The Aliakmona dam is crossed by the Servia bridge.

From the south coast of Aliakonas Reservoir after passing through the small town of Servia the massifs Kamvounias ( west) and Sapkas or Titaros ( East) happens to be a winding route to the southeast to the town of Elassona by the Sarandaporos Pass. Here, the Regional District of Kozani is left and the Regional District Larisa enter.

Middle section ( Larisa, Fiotida )

After reaching the Regional District Larisa National Road 3 performs at the western foot of Mount Olympus massif after Elassona. From there it continues panning to Southeast East and reached the northern edge of the Thessalian plain, the city Larisa. A ring-road, the National Road 3 around Larisa and swings them on South Course after Pharsala. From Farsala from the national road bends 3 west to east of the mountain Koumaros to leave in a valley, the Thessalian plain and Domokos and the pass Stena Fourkas over the mountain range to the north of Lamia to reach the city of Lamia on Maliakos Gulf. The section Domokos - Lamia will in future be replaced by the under construction highway 3.

It crosses the city of Lamia and runs geradeweg to the south on the western flank of Mount Iti ( Oiti ) along the village Vralos. From Vralos from pivots the E.O. 3 to the southeast and passes south of the river Kifisos the plain of Boeotia ( Viotia ).

Southern section ( Viotia, Attiki)

Upon entry into the plane of Viotia the National Road 3 runs in the north of the city of Livadia further to the southeast on the southern edge of the plain. She reached in the same direction leading the city Thebes and leads into it. In the city of Thebes, the National Road 3 applies strictly to the south and runs straight to the city Erythres. Erythres is bypassed in a western arc. Subsequently, the National Road winds through a valley between three mountains Lestori ( west) and Pastra Oros (east) through again to the southeast of the city Inoi ( Ini ). This is traversed before the National Road 3 shows back to the south and runs along the eastern flank of the mountain Makron Oros. In the village of Paleochori the National Road 3 swings to the southeast and rises above Villari and Mandra to its end point in Elefsina the Saronic Gulf in the west of Athens from.

Sections, expansion

The predominant part of the National Highway 3 is a 2-lane road with oncoming traffic. Especially in the mountain and fitting portions the road is to be found in this state of development. However, in recent years extensive measures to improve road will take place. Here, certain sections have been expanded:
