Greek Orthodox Church

A Greek Orthodox Church as such does not exist, rather the quite common term refers to the relationship between the Greek culture and the Orthodox Church.

Other terms are Greek Orthodox, Greek- oriental, Greek Orthodox or Greek Oriental Church.

Orthodoxy in Greece

Orthodox Christians and Orthodox parishes in the State of Greece either belong to the Church of Greece or ancient church of Constantinople Opel.

The Orthodox Church in South and Central Greece is the Church of Greece ( " Archdiocese of Athens and All Greece ").

The Orthodox Church in North Greece, as well as on many islands are under the Church of Constantinople Opel (Ecumenical Patriarchate), in its own archbishop of Constantinople Opel and its own archbishop of Crete.

The Greek-speaking Orthodox churches outside Greece are also subject to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople Opel.

Proper name in Greece

In Greece, the term Greek Orthodox church is unusual, the Orthodox majority describes itself as Orthodox Christians ( Χριστιανοί Ορθόδοξοι ) without any addition, and without distinction to other Orthodox Christians. Sooner Catholic Christians ( the Greek term "Catholic", for universal or universal) was also in early Christian tradition, the term ( Καθολικοί Χριστιανοί ) are common. However, since the Roman Catholic Church uses the term intense, is usually waived because of the risk of confusion.

Other assignments
