Green Gate

The Green Gate ( Brama Zielona Polish ) is a city gate in Gdansk between the Long Market ( Długi Targ ), whose eastern end it forms, and the Mottlau ( Motława ).

It was built from 1564 to 1568 in the magnificent Flemish Mannerism and the Nachfolgerbau of Koggentors from the 14th century. It was designed by Hans Kramer of Dresden, the construction work, the then very famous architect Regnier from Amsterdam. At the front of this building four passages were built right and the structure of the building gives the impression to be a lock. The building was called the " green gate " because its facade was painted green. It was originally intended as the town residence of the Polish kings, but it was only Luisa Maria Gonzaga, with King Władysław IV Vasa was staying in the green gate in front of her marriage. After destruction in World War II, the gate was rebuilt. 2002 there was a partial collapse, which is now fixed.
