Research

Since 1985, the American ecologist Steve Beissinger explored in Venezuela the lives and behavior of animals in a colony of Grünbürzel - Parrotlets. This long-term study provided clues on the ecological and evolutionary background of imitation learning of parrots: So learn young parrots from their parents, the species-specific basic patterns of intraspecific communication, but these vary individually and can life be further varied, so each animal its 'own' can be contact calls developed and recognized individually by each other conspecifics.
