Acid brilliant green BS, and Green S, a triphenylmethane dye, which as a food dye (E 142) is used.

Properties

Green S is a moderately lightfast, heat, little alkali and good acid-resistant powder with green color ( lambda max 632 nm) is readily soluble in water.

Use

It is used for coloring foods ( canned peas ) and confectionery ( peppermint color) as well as beverages, cosmetics and wool, leather and paper.

In the United States, Canada, Japan and Norway are prohibited as a food additive, although the body is eliminated unchanged.

Toxicology

Acid brilliant green is practically not absorbed from the intestine and excreted within 7 h. The European Commission presented in 2001 established a Permitted daily dose of 5 mg / kg body weight.
