Greenock (South Australia)

Greenock is a small village at the northwestern end of the Barossa Valley in South Australia and lies about 66 km from Adelaide on the Sturt Highway. The nearest towns are Seppeltsfield, Nuriootpa and Marananga.

The village with about 700 inhabitants, was named by James Smith, the secretary of George Fife Angas, after the Scottish town of Greenock on the Clyde. Greenock is characterized by three avenues and is sometimes also called Little Scotland in the Barossa Valley ( German: Klein- Scotland in the Barossa Valley) called. Greenock is located on the Heysen Trail, the longest long distance footpath Australia.
