Gregg Zuckerman

Jay Gregg Zuckerman ( b. 1949 in Los Angeles ) is an American mathematician. He is a professor at Yale University. It deals with Lie groups and their representations.

Zuckerman in 1975 received his doctorate from Princeton University with Elias Stein ( Some character identities for semisimple Lie groups). 1974/75 and 1978 he worked at the Institute for Advanced Study. 1977/78 he was a Junior Faculty Fellow and later a professor at Yale.

By Anthony W. Knapp 1976 he classified tempered irreducible representations of semisimple Lie groups ( they play a special role in the harmonic analysis on Lie groups ). He also made contributions to mathematical physics, among others, Howard Garland and Igor Frenkel 1986 ( relating BRST quantization of strings with graded cohomology Liealgeben ). and was one of the first of the treated (before Edward Witten) Chern - Simons field theories.

1979 to 1981 he was a Sloan Fellow.
