Gregor Virant

Gregor Virant ( born December 4, 1969 in Ljubljana) is a Slovenian government scientists and politicians.

Life

He studied law at the University of Ljubljana, where he received his doctorate in 1998 with a thesis on expropriation and restriction of property rights for the common good. He first worked for the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia; 2000 to 2004 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Interior.

After the parliamentary election in 2004, he received the government of Janez Janša, the minister in the newly created Ministry of Public Administration. In the government of Prime Minister Janša Virant was considered a " liberal figurehead ". After the election defeat Janša at the 2008 general election was Irma Pavlinić cancer Virants successor. Virant has since been working as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Management at the University of Ljubljana.

In the early parliamentary election in 2011 Virant stood as the top candidate of the newly formed Citizens list Gregor Virants, which is attributed to the political center. He became a member of the Parliament. He was elected on 22 December 2011 as the President of Parliament; of this office he resigned in January 2013, and was succeeded by the Social Democrat Janko Veber. Since March 2013 Virant 's interior minister in the government of Alenka Bratušek.
