Gregorian mode#Plagal mode

Plagaltonarten ( " derived " modes) are derived from the authentic church modes, by enabling them to a fourth down.

Authentic and plagal church modes (modes ) have the same final, but differ in their ambit and their repercussa. In the plagal modes, the repercussa is basically a third lower than at the authentic, but it should be noted that h (fh as part of the perceived as unstable tritone ) are avoided and is replaced by c1.

Plagal the modes can be identified, in contrast to the authentic mode of the prefix " hypo ".
