Gregorio Fernández
Gregorio Fernández ( * 1576 in Sarria, † 1636 in Valladolid, also Gregorio Hernández ) was a Spanish sculptor.
Life
Fernández studied in Valladolid, where he established his own workshop about 1605. He made with wood carved and painted altar figures a name. He renounced bright colors and gold, and instead chose a simple, natural-looking color.
Fernández ' Christ statues are of dramatic urgency, and her charisma makes the finest examples of Spanish baroque.
