Gregory Baum

Gregory Baum (* 1923 in Berlin ) is a German - Canadian Roman Catholic theologian.

Life

Gregory Baum comes from a German - Jewish family. In 1939 his family emigrated to England in 1940 to Canada. 1946 joined tree in the Roman Catholic Church and the Augustinian Order in 1947. After the Second World War, he studied Roman Catholic theology, mathematics and physics at McMaster University, the Ohio State University and the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. With the dissertation Christian unity in papal documents of the 20th century, he was awarded his doctorate. After graduation, he worked as a university teacher of Catholic Theology at the University of Toronto at Saint Michael 's College and later at McGill University in Montreal. As the theologian tree was present at the Second Vatican Council. He belonged to the " Sub-Commission on the Jewish problem area " of the Pontifical Secretariat for Unity, is due to their preparations, the Council's Declaration Nostra Aetate. From 1962 to 2004 he was co-editor of the journal The Ecumenist.

1990 tree was awarded " Officer of the Order of Canada " award.
