Gregory Doran

Gregory Doran, Greg (born 1958 in Huddersfield ) is a British actor and theater director.

Life

Doran grew up in Lancashire and attended Preston Catholic College. At the University of Bristol, he studied English and theater and was followed by a professional acting training at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. His theatrical career began at the Playhouse in Nottingham. In 1987 he was engaged as an actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company, 1992, he led his directorial debut there in 1996 he staged with All Is True his first Shakespeare play at the RSC. Since then, Doran has realized almost half of Shakespeare's plays with the RSC. Doran has also shown the presence playwright at the RSC and at other houses, so 2012 David Edgar's Written on the Heart.

In 1995 he led in Johannesburg directed Titus Andronicus, in which Antony Sher played the title role. The controversial recorded production is the subject of the book published by two Woza Shakespeare! .

2012 Doran was appointed successor to the RSC artistic director Michael Boyd and will assume the artistic direction of its predecessor from the season 2012/13 as director from 2014.

In 2003 he was awarded the Laurence Olivier Award for Theatre. In July 2011 he became an honorary doctorate from the University of Bristol.

Since 1987, Doran is in a relationship with actor Antony Sher, 2005, the two got married.
