Gresham Barrett

James Gresham Barrett ( born February 14, 1961 in Westminster, Oconee County, South Carolina) is an American politician. From 2003 to January 2011, he represented the state of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

J. Gresham Barrett initially attended Westminster High School and graduated from then until 1983, the military academy The Citadel in Charleston. Between 1983 and 1897 he was an officer in the U.S. Army. He reached the rank of Captain. He then headed the family-owned furniture store. He was also of some clubs and organizations such as the Westminster Rotary Club, the local Boy Scouts, Chamber of Commerce Westminster or the local Red Cross on the board.

Politically, Barrett joined the Republican Party. Between 1996 and 2002 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from South Carolina. There he was a member of several committees. In 2000, he supported the presidential campaign of George W. Bush. In the congressional elections of 2002 he was in the third constituency of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the exchanged in the Senate Lindsey Graham on January 3, 2003. Barrett is one of the most conservative members of Congress. He was a member of the Finance Committee and the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
