Grey-bellied dunnart

Sminthopsis griseoventer, in English also known as the Grey -bellied dunnart ( " Graubäuchige Schmalfuß bag mouse " ), is a Beutelsäugerart from the kind of Schmalfußbeutelmäuse, which is endemic to Australia. It has not yet recognized German name.

Description

The body length is 65-95 mm, additionally there is a tail, which has approximately the same length as the rest of the body with 65 to 98 mm. The olive-gray ear is 17-18 mm long, the hind foot 16 to 17 mm. The weight varies from 15 to 25 grams

Distribution and habitat

The distribution area is located in Western Australia, in coastal areas of the southwest and in the accompanying ranches. Overall, it is hardly enough 100 km into the interior. In December 2003 a new population in South Australia was discovered on the Eyre Peninsula in two national parks. However, this population no distinct subspecies dar. The habitat consists of heathland, forests and marshlands.

Way of life

Sminthopsis griseoventer is nocturnal and inhabits leaf litter and burrows. The eight young are born a few centimeters below the ground. On the Boullanger Island this process takes place in August, in the other regions in October. The diet consists of insects, small mammals, reptiles and amphibians.

From the IUCN Sminthopsis is listed as least concern griseoventer ( " safely ").
