Grigore Preoteasa

Grigore Preoteasa ( born August 25, 1915 in Bucharest, † November 4, 1957 in Moscow, Soviet Union) was a Romanian journalist, politician and communist activist. In the period from October 4, 1955 until his death he was the Romanian foreign minister.

Life

Grigore Preoteasa was born in 1915 in Bucharest. His father was a typesetter Bucharest who worked in the printing office of the State Railways. After school Preoteasa visited the Faculty of Philology of the University of Bucharest. Later he became a member of the Romanian Communist Party and leader of the Democratic Students Front ( Frontul Studenţesc Democrat or Democratic Frontul Universitar ). Between late 1944 and 1946 he was editor of România Liberă. The friend of Nicolae Ceauşescu was a typical representative of the intellectual offspring of the party. After the rise within the party, he was Romanian Foreign Minister on 4 October 1955.

On November 4, 1957 Preoteasa flew a Romanian state and government delegation to the 40th anniversary of the Great Socialist Revolution in Moscow. On board the plane was also Nicolae Ceauşescu. The plane crashed while approaching the Moscow Vnukovo Airport. In the plane crash Grigore Preoteasa and three crew members were killed. The other occupants of the aircraft received minor injuries to severe. The body of Grigore Preoteasas was then laid in the Moscow House of Unions. The funeral took place after the overpass on 13 November 1957 the Bucharest cemetery Ghencea instead.
