Grigori Kromanov

Grigori Kromanov (Russian Григорий Ермович Кроманов; born March 8, 1926 in Tallinn, Republic of Estonia, † July 18, 1984 in the village Lahe, Rajon Rakvere, Estonian SSR) was an Estonian theater and film director.

Life

Grigori Kromanov completed his studies in 1953 at the State Lunacharsky Institute of Theatre Arts (now the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts ) in Moscow from. Subsequently, he worked as an actor at Draamateater in the Estonian capital Tallinn. From 1956 to 1963 Kromanov film director was at the Estonian Television ETV. Subsequently, he was primarily active as a film director with the state sowjetestnischen film production company Tallinnfilm until his early death at the age of 58 years.

Kromanov has also staged at the Estonian- and Russian-speaking theaters in Tallinn numerous pieces. He taught at the department of performing arts of the State Conservatory of Tallinn ( Tallinna Riiklik Konservatoorium ). 1975 Award " Honored Artist of the Estonian SSR " he was awarded.

Work

Grigori Kromanov was one of the most active and most prominent directors during the Soviet occupation of Estonia. His most famous film is the Estonian cult flicks Viimne reliikvia ( "The Last Relic " ) from the year 1969.

Of special importance was also his film Mis juhtus Andres Lapeteusega? ( " What happened to Andres Lapeteus ?") Of 1966. He explores the character of the thaw in the Soviet Union with the consequences of the Stalinist personality cult.
