History

The Grimstadbanen was built in Cape gauge and opened in 1907 as a private railway in the Grimstad - Frohlandsbanen ( GFB ). Since 1908 she had connection to the built by the State Railways between Arendal and Froland. When this route in 1935 converted to standard gauge, the Grimstadbanen was rebuilt and adopted by the NSB.

On this branch line timber and ore were mainly transported, in addition to the passenger. The railway was decommissioned in 1961, when the passenger has been set.

Parts of the route are now considered to bike path.
