Grindelwald–Männlichen gondola cableway

The gondola Grindelwald- Male ( RCD ), also called Männlichenbahn Grindelwald, [Note 1] was with a total length of 6.2 km, the longest cable car in the world. A half hour's drive you can reach from Grindelwald -Grund ( 937 m) over the Holenstein intermediate station ( 1624 m), the mountain station Male ( 2225 m). The height difference is so total 1298 m. The gondola was built by Habegger Maschinenfabrik AG, Thun as a fully automatic Habegger - one-cable circulation car and opened on 23 December 1978. The plant was built in two sections, each with a 40 mm rope. In the middle station of the four nacelles are automatically transported from one rope to the other. The horizontal length of the first section is 3068 m, that of the second 3003 m, the horizontal length is thus 6071 m. In the slope, the sections are respectively 3167 m 3073 m long, for a total of 6240 m. On the entire route there are 52 columns, of which the highest 38 m measures. The drive for both ropes is in the middle station. The travel speed is a maximum of 4 m / s (14,4 km / h), the capacity 900 persons per hour. Since the commissioning of the valley and the mountain station were rebuilt several times. In the fall of 1989, the ropes were replaced.

In summer, the mountain station of the masculine and the middle station Holenstein serve as a starting point for many hikes. In winter, the ski resort is skiers Männlichenbahn Male / Kleine Scheidegg. 20 cable cars and lifts with over 100 km of tracks are the winter sports available.
