Griselda Álvarez

Griselda Álvarez Ponce de León ( born April 5, 1913 in Guadalajara, † March 26, 2009 in Mexico City) was a Mexican writer and politician.

Life

Griselda Álvarez came from a Mexican politician family: her great-grandfather was the Mexican General Manuel Álvarez. Her father Miguel Álvarez García was a regional politician in Colima. Griselda Álvarez was also Senator of Jalisco in 1976 and 1979 with her ​​election as Prime Minister of Colima, the first female president at the country level in Mexico. Although she was formerly a member of the PRI, so it supported up to her death, the demands of Andrés Manuel López Obrador ( PRD). She was awarded the Medalla del Senado de la Belisario Domínguez República 1996.
