Zungenbeckensee

The Big Town Lake is a lake in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ).

The lake is located south of the city Penzlin. On the eastern shore lies the village Werder. The lake is approximately 2.6 kilometers long and up to 650 meters wide. In the central part of the lake is divided by a peninsula at Werder into two basins. In the larger southern basin is a small island. The northern basin has a peninsula on the east side, are seen on the remains of a Slavic hill fort dating from the 10th to 12th centuries. The shore of the lake is largely deforested and quite hilly. In the south, the mountain ranges reach 73.5 meters in the northeast up to 78.7 meters.

The lake is, like most lakes of Mecklenburg, during the last ice advances of the Weichselian emerged.
