Großgaststätte Ahornblatt

The restaurant Ahornblatt in the Mitte district on the corner Gertraudenstraße fishing island was built as a social center for the 1970-1973 period with high-rise buildings residential re-designed fishing island. Design and construction

The design of the maple leaf came from the architect Gerhard Lehmann and Rüdiger Plaethe, the urban design of Helmut Stingl. The name " Maple Leaf " was derived from the leaf-like, outwardly curved shape of the roof. The concrete construction was made possible by the shell structure of Ulrich Müther that counted in this field with the VEB special concrete building from Binz to the world's leading capacities. The exterior walls were glazed and structured by horizontally arranged sunblinds.

The construction of the maple leaf was 1971 to 1973.

Use

The restaurant was first used after its opening on July 18, 1973 as a restaurant for the participants of the Tenth World Festival. She then served as an operating restaurant for the employees of surrounding businesses and services and for the construction workers of the Palace of the Republic. Also, about 1,000 children of surrounding schools participated there have lunch. Afternoon and evening, it was used as a public restaurant and also for parties and events.

After the fall of the building was used under the name Exit as disco. DJ Tanith organized first regular after-hour events here. Later, the maple leaf was empty.

Demolition

1997 sold the Regional Finance Office Berlin the terrain with the now Grade II listed building on the Property Marketing GmbH. Despite numerous protests against the destruction of modern architecture in the GDR, among other things, by the Berlin Chamber of Architects, the purchaser of the premises was granted a demolition permit for the Maple Leaf. The conservation authority had to agree, in the absence of a utilization concept demolition. Müther held on 21 January 2000 a final tour of his building. On 19 July 2000, the demolition of the maple leaf began. The Accor group built in its place a middle class hotel for business travelers and families.
